It is quite easy on a tri five. There are big holes in the corners that the posts stick into. Cut a small "x" in the center of it and then you can feel the screw holes from behind with your finger.

You could be a real life saver here Terry. That is such a nice looking job on that hood liner I do not blame NEWWIFE for asking for help. I would be too scared to be putting any pressure on the lining to feel where the holes are as I would end up poking my finger through in the wrong spot.

 

Next time anyone installs a head liner try this trick. put the screws for visors,dome lights,and hanger hooks in place don't screw them all the way in ,about half way will be good. Go ahead with the headliner install. When you are ready to install visors you can feed around for screws and make a small slit with a razor blade or a box cutter on head of them. If your new holes are to small don't try to make them bigger with razor blade ,use a phillip screw driver shaft in the hole to massage the material a bit . With you situation where headliner is already in place, get your self a big "hat pin" A big pin with a ball on the end ( I't's what you use for removing splinters ! ! ) You can usually find the hole in the under laying tin with out doing damage to the headliner.. when you are done brush the headliner with a small brush to cover holes you made so it doesn't look like it got attacked by a woodpecker...:anim_25:

But this trick doesn`t work with vinyl.

I was watching my trimmer when he installed my visors on a new headliner, firstly he was experienced not the first Trifive, all he did was he roughly knew where the mounts were, felt around for the screw holes then used a needle like poker, he mounted the first screw to the visor then did the same with the rest.

He aslo did the same for the coat hooks.

I'm just up to doing mine as well.
Does the hood lining need to be cut to let the spring mechisim into the hole?.
I can feel the hole when I push my finger hard onto it, but it puts a lot of tension on the lining when I push my finger up to the hole.

Very helpful, Thanks for the pics. I must have a thousand of the dis-assembly but not that view. On a fun note, check this photo. My wife and I went to Florida to check a printer that will print images on finger nails. (She is opening a large nail shop) I had this printed on my nail for demo purposes. Needs refinement but it's a chick magnet.

Visors installed. Only took me two weeks to get back to it. The photos helped much. On to seat belts, carpet, door panels, etc. The seats are already recovered and ready to install.
