I want to put a bigger tire on back of my 55. Looked thru the forum and have a question. Can you just do a tub to the frame only to add a little more room? Would prefer not to cut frame. Also what size tire and rim would fit? I am currently running 15" Cragars.

Thanks for the help guys!

Yes. That's what I have, relocated springs and mini tub flush to the frame. I have a 31x10.00 tire on a 15x10 rim and have about an inch clearance inside and out. The tire measures 30" diameter and about 12-1/2" wide (section width). Moved the axle centerline back 5/8" so tire does not rub/interfere with the fender lip opening at the rocker. Makes it easier to remove the wheel and not touch the paint. With a shorter tire would not need to be moved back. Also, I have 2" lowering leaf springs and a 1" lowering blocks. With the tall tires it is not really low, despite the 3" drop.

Looks like I will need a pocket kit too. Then I would need someone to do it. Guess I will keep my eyes open for somebody.

Postman....thats a great calculator....Thanks

a mini tub without a pocket kit or similar solution doesn't buy you much for room. with the pocket kit you will have appx 15" between the inner tub and quarter skin.

do not weld the tubs to the frame, the body and frame flex due to rubber body mounts and there will be cracking if the 2 are welded together at the tubs.
