What did everybody think of the new overhauling tonight? I thought it was pretty good or maybe just excited about a real restoration show back on tv. What was your alls thoughts?

If you are talking about the one where they bought the car from the guy, fixed it up and gave it back to him, that was fairly cool.

My issue was what did the guy really do to deserve it?

He was a Marine, great, proud of him for that.

He sold it because he and his wife had a baby & needed the money, Really, why would that deserve it?

I tried to contact them when my neighbor was dying from a brain tumor. This guy gave back to the children in the comunity. He delivered milk and such to all of the different schools. A lot of the time he would just give it to different ones that were barely making it so the children would have milk and such. Along with everything else that he did for the different schools, churches and such.

They would never even return my e-mails. Guess unless you live in the LA area you are not worth their time. No matter what someone has done for their community.

Then there is the gang banger signs that he was flashing while in Marine uniform, Real nice.

Sorry for the rant. The show just rubbed me the wrong way.

And yes, I watched it anyway. Still some nice cars they turn out.

I didn't see it yet.
I never paid much attention to the owners involved, just their cars.
I think Chip Foose is an artist, a five star designer and seems like a pretty nice person to boot.
Meh, I'll be watching his shows, fast forwarding past the pranks and stuff and not really thinking about whether the person deserves it not.

I haven't seen the show but remember when the shows were geared toward those who have faced some type of hardship or who had done something for their community. I think one of the last shows that I watched was when they took the car of somebody who had all kinds of money to pay for his car to be done. He didn't really face any real challenges in his life and did not have any crisis to overcome. For me, the series stopped trying to help or give back to somebody who made a huge difference in society. Is the new show any better, don't have a clue. I did enjoy the overhaulin show, but stopped watching it after that one show. For whatever reason, I lost all interest in it.

Wifey and I watched it last night and really enjoyed it... Chip's young son was there working on the project too... Later, Dave

The charity angle is "feel good", but think about it, usually if someone needs charity, should it be in the form of giving someone a restoration or a hot rod? They probably need essential things, like a better place to live, basic transportation, or something to help dealing with a handicap if that's needed.
So if they truly need help, it's misdirected.

I know we had a deal here a couple of years back where we helped out a cancer victim, and it turned out good, he got a very positive thing out of it, and those who contributed had a positive experience from doing so. To me that was different from a TV show. But who's to say?

What most of us want to see in these shows is less drama, and more on the cars. But that's not what those who are not car enthusiasts or hot rodders want, so we'll always have something on this angle, to get more viewers.

All that said, I am entertained by Foose and his talent, too bad it's diluted.

When it comes to doing builds for people in need, I think of situations like the Miracle Gasser that was done by people from this site. They helped to fulfill a dream by giving of their time, talents and even financially. In order for Rick to enjoy his car for a little bit, that had to happen. Could all that effort have been put to better use, probably. If that effort would have been put to better use, would it have made a larger impact in Rick's life? Never.

That is my point with how the old overhauler shows were designed. I agree that if the individual needs somebody to do the build for him or her then there may be more appropriate things to help with. But I still believe that the building of a car can give a boost to a person's life and you can never underestimate how that can change their life.

I remember I was about 14 when it first started showing and I sent in an application for my dads 66 El Camino (he is currently having it fully restored now!), anyways, I never did hear back from them... It wasn't really a "Sob" story that I had, just that I really liked my sad and he's always keeping the lights on and having to work day and sometimes at night in the rain, lightning, hail, snow etc... (he is a lineman). Maybe it was that extra letter I wrote to Courtney... I kinda had a crush on her...
