Before they made it mandatory to put the striking strip on the back. I think I was too young to be playing with matches but did. Back then and still now, I can't see how people would accidentally light the whole pack of matches.

 

I have a collection of matchbooks and am said that few businesses offer these anymore. Glad that fewer people smoke cigarettes.

 

I had a collection as well...Used to ride my bike around as a kid and pick up discarded match books along the side of the road just for something to do.

 

Do they even still make matches?? Interesting that they used one color "57 for the front view and Red for the rear view. Smart thinking, catches your eye!

 

I was thinking the same thing just the other day. Businesses don't give them out anymore since the popularity of smoking is on the wane. You can still order plain ones on Amazon - not the penny apiece that I remember them to be though.

 

The other thing I noticed was the name. Mohawk.
Now days that would be considered offensive to one group or another. All the old Indian themed mascots are almost gone.

Agree....Our high school which was one town over was called the Turners Falls Indians, until correctness took over.

That clock looks brand new! Is it yours? I have a Champion Spark Plugs and a Kendal Oil but neither look THAT good.

 

They've gone way too far with some of this name change nonsense. Would it not be complimentary to have a professional sports team named after your Indian tribe/heritage?? My opinion is yes. Some of these names have been around for a very long time. Good enough then, should be good enough now. What's next, the Audubon Society wants the names of all birds removed from professional sports??? And don't forget the fish. Ridiculous, Carmine.

I wish I hadn't lost one matchpack I had. A friend's father owned a bar & grill. On the pack it read "Wife can't cook? Don't kick her out, keep her as a pet and eat at our place". Talk about ruffling some feathers!
