I have read the post on production numbers, is there a database of production
numbers based on paint color codes?

thanks

Hey Bama, my car was a factory red/white but I am thinking of painting it the Harbor Blue/Nassau Blue 2 tone.

I've seen a few of them around but don't see that many. That's what lead to the paint production number question.

Harbor Blue / Nassau blue is one of my most favorite '56 Color Combinations. On a Bel Air, it's a beautiful combination! I've a '57 Sedan with Harbor blue and larkspur blue, but the larkspur blue is not nearly as pretty a blue as the Nassau blue, and '57 two tone is not as striking as a '56 BelAir two tone!

in '55, 56, 57 the reds and the turquoises were the most popular colors (as I remember)... I'd guess the two tone blues were in the lower middle of the listing as far as frequency of use.

When I painted my '57 Bel Air sedan it's original colors of 'Harbor blue and larkspur blue', I was dismayed when I saw all the green being mixed into the color, so before I sprayed the Larkspure for the top, I began adding some harbor blue.. a few ounces at a time, until I had a more pleasing light blue (ie. closer to Nassau blue).. :)d

I painted this car in 1988 using straight enamel (with hardener) in my driveway outside... so there's not much shine.

Interesting. Today I showed some people my paint samples of Harbor Blue, India ivory, Larkspur Blue, and Nassau Blue, and one lady thought the Larkspur has too much yellow in it (possibly green?).

All thought Nassau Blue goes better with Harbor Blue and India Ivory!

Not that I have seen, and I was a professional painter. (Before I got old)

The actual PAINT code (from the paint store) for Seamist Green is the same regardless, but the actual paint 'scheme' on your car, which takes into account the model of your car and if it's a two tone or not, dictates the code which is on the cowl tag under PNT. If your car is seamist green on the bottom with india ivory on the top, then the paint code on the cowl tag should be 605. Check that code and let us know what it is? That will tell you how the car was painted from the factory.

Autocolour library

Have a look at this site, where you can put your vehicle details in the selector, and it brings up the applicable colour chart.

There are no known records for numbers of cars in each color. Two tone blue was popular but not the most popular color choice in '56. It was/is a beautiful combination, and IMO especially on a '56 Nomad! Each time I think of a two tone blue '56 Nomad, I get a picture in my mind of the gorgeous car owned by Bill Lippay back in the 80';s and 90's. It was probably my favorite Nomad from all the hundreds or thousands I've seen. Bill is now deceased, but his daughter once told me that a 'big time' collector purchased the car from Bill, even though she wanted it herself.

Well, here is a photo (found online) of a '57 Nomad in harbor and larkspur...

Here is a '56 Nomad in harbor blue and nassau blue...

It's difficult / impossible to tell in these two photos, due to the difference in lighting and different body paint schemas, but the '56 and '57 Harbor Blue (the darker color) are the SAME, but the light blue used in '56 (Nassau blue) is much more blue (and prettier) than the '57 Larkspur blue. I re-painted my original two tone blue '57 Sedan in the late 80's, and when I had the larkspur blue mixed, I was surprised it had so much 'green' in it. It 'appeared' more green than blue in the can when I was mixing it to spray, so being a fan of the '56 nassau blue, I began adding a few ounces of the harbor blue to the larkspur blue until I was satisfied it was 'blue enough'! Here is my sedan in that paint.

Where did you get that idea? I've seen one or two Nomads in the Harbor/Larkspur combination over the years, and I'm sure there were many built.

PS. If you LIKE the larkspur blue with Harbor blue, then I apologize for attempting to influence you towards substituting Nassau blue... :)

No apologies needed . I value suggestions as I may not have known the difference . Much better to know before hand . I think I saw a list of production numbers and paint codes . It may have been in a how to book on Tri Fives . Sorry i don't have it handy now . I will try to locate it .

Thanks

You mentioned that your car was originally two tone green (Highland and Surf green), but I thought previously you said you didn't know and the cowl plate was missing?? Or maybe I am having a brain fart... :)

Speaking of the two tone Green '57 color - one of the nicest '57 Restored cars I've had the pleasure of viewing/admiring was one restored back in the mid-late 80's, it was the highland/surf combo and was restored by David Doyal from Georgia. The unrestored car had been advertised in Fairhope, Alabama with Many options (all power, AC, etc) but was unrestored. I never had chance to go look at it even though it was at a time I was looking for a '57 to restore. Tom Hodgen (Ontario, CA) bought it and stored it for a few years than sold it to David. David an another friend drove to CA and bought it, trailered it back to Georgia around Christmas time or New Years, and 5 months later May of that year, he had restored it and brought it to the Smoky Mountain Classic show in Pigeon Forge and it was PERFECTION itself, and all the power and AC worked... I was in heavy LUST over the car but David sold it to someone from Oregon/WA ? for more $$ than I had at the time! David restored the car in around 4 months while working full time for Delta Airlines (Atlanta Airport). I was probably MORE amazed at the quality and speed of his restoration work as I was of the car! David is still the 'Nomader I most admire' partly for his work on that car!

I don't have a photo of that car, but here is an older restoration in that color combo which was for sale in the past..

Good memory Bama , The plate is missing . The car is currently brown with some very faint lettering on it as it was a track car . Under the brown is a copper color . But under that and behind tailgate hardware there are the two greens . In Gertmans photos from this past Bowling Green Show there was a beautiful Nomad in those colors . I did print them and have them on my office wall .
Thanks
