I remember when I was restoring my '57 2dr hardtop, the repro window handles would not engage the splines, it seems the clip groove is too high so it allows the handle splines to disengage. I eventually replaced them with NOS items, so they fit great. I'm doing the interior fit out of a '61 Impala Bubbletop which has repro window cranks, guess what, same problem. Why has this been able to not be rectified in 5 yrs? When I showed the client, he blew his top, I guess he paid good money for them. The vent windows were fine so????
Must be made in another Chinese village, I guess.

Glad to hear it's just not me with the same issue.

Bought a few from Danchuk last year. Look very nice, high price, but wouldn't stay on. I beat on them with a rubber mallet, greased them, you name it, but they just wouldn't' stay. Once they appeared to be installed, I would go to crank the window and they would pop off! No amount of cussing would seem to help, either!

So, had to reinstall my pitted originals....

It seems to be a problem with the depth of the hole, spline design, and location of the retainer clip. On the reopos, the clip doesn't even hardly stay on before you install the crank, while on the original GM cranks, it's solidly locked in place.

Note: Why does Danchuk proudly and repeatedly claim "parts made in the USA" when they farm out manufacturing to China?

Now I'm pissed off again. I think I'll call them and complain about the cranks. Never had time to follow up on that....

Interesting. Sorry to hear you had a problem. If you would could we pick those up and bring them to California for inspection and such? We don't get many of those back. Feel free to PM me your info and your customer number so I can arrange to pick them up. I will need to look up the sale for the exchange. We'll get a set hand picked and tested for fit to send you back. I believe they test for fit before they are carded, but we'll double check for you.

I had the same issue with the danchuck handles that I bought a couple of years ago. Got them on but they just flopped down and would not engage, could not keeps the clips on until I went to gm and got real gm clips. That keeps the handle on but still no engagement. Put the originals back on. Trying to get the car back together after floorboard repairs and wanted to deal with the inside door handles. Talked to the cool old guys at ol 55 east coast chevy and they confirmed that it appears the danchuk handles are not splined deep enough to work properly, and this issue presents itself in particular, when the car still has the original inside handle mechanism in the car. Less likely if you are using a reproduction mechanism, the danchuck apparently work better in that instance. Unfortunately, the offshore version of the handle apparently does not have the same issues. Now, I just read the previous post. I don't want to be argumentative here, but I just did a search on our site, and chevy talk and this issue appears not to be all that new so I don't know how this issue could not be known to danchuck. As for few returns, I did not return mine because it just was not worth the trouble. Maybe I was not alone. At any rate, hope they can get the issue resolved. Would love to buy a high quality, well chromed, USA made handle.

These posts go back 5 years or so to 2010. So unfortunately this is not a new issue. There is certainly a solution to this issue, and I am sure there is a cost involved for the manufactures to correct the issue, but a product that does not work properly does not get better by itself. Otherwise, it would only be fair to warn consumers prior to the purchase. Like I said, not trying to be argumentative, but would really love to buy in confidence a new, USA manufactured, well chromed, well made, reproduction handle.

Danchuk door and window handles

The problem has still not been resolved. I bought a set in May and installed then last week.they will stay engaged on the regulator splines. I called today and was told they had not had any recent problems. The lady assured me that they were designed to work with the Oem regulator. However when you compare them with an Oem it is easy to see that the retainer groove is cut in the wrong place. She did give me an ra number. They will go back tomorrow. Hard to understand why they continue to sell these parts when it is obvious that they are defective. Don

Send them back and don`t buy them again. Both me and another local member threw ours in the garbage.Mine I bought 20 years ago and just recently tried them because of Dragsix`s comments.I guess some things will never change.

This has been an ongoing issue with these handles since they became available and to this day still have the very same problem, They DON'T WORK. The same old reply is always used, "This is the first time we have heard of this problem". The spline casting is not correct and the clips are absolutely TRASH.

Sad but it is the SAME reply you get for every part that has a problem. :motz:

You want them to work, Find some nice used or NOS originals.

Yep, still a problem. In this age, you would think some entrepreneur would have decided that there is a good market in this, after all, all they have to do is exactly replicate the OEM handles, or is that the problem? (Not licensed by GM)

http://www.trifive.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139896 read it all the way. I ended up polishing up my old handles and window cranks. Would have loved to have had new well chromed versions to sparkle up the interior but it is simply not in the cards with the state of the current reproduction parts, and apparently all of the reproduction parts. What a bummer.

Door and window handles

I sent the danchuk handles back and ordered a set of imports from East Coast Chevy. They told me that the chrome wasn't as good as the Danchuks but assured me that they would stay on. Got them yesterday and they look almost as good. But the best part. I put them on today and they stay on! Don

I took some close up photos of original and Danchuk cranks back when this thread started and forgot to post them here. So here they are.

1. Original on left, Repro on right. You can clearly see the difference in the location of the clip slot. This is the problem right here.

2. Danchuk crank back side + clip.
3. GM crank back side + clip. Compare these two.

4. Fronts. Repro on top. The only difference here is the plastic knob.

5. Backs.
