I was reading the other day in here where the guys were talking about moving the rad closer to the fan because the engine was heating up when in traffic, etc. & now I can't find where I was at . The engine was rebuilt 11,600 miles ago, new rad, new thermo, new rad cap ( 7 lb. recommended ), new hoses, new temp gauge, a shroud, & I am going to replace the sending unit but thought I would do the rad move first, any suggestions as to how close I can move the rad with out causing any damage or is there something I can also check ? thanks, Ivan.

Without a shrould, I like to get the fan about 1/2 " from the rad., but, if you are running a shrould, the fan should be half way in , and half way out of the shrould. The shrould should cover the whole rad. if possible.

Davidc is correct. If your radiator is in the v-8 position(motor side of the rad. support) your clearances are real tight. That's exactly why I prefer the 6cyl position. Just make sure the shroud be sealed on its perimeter to really be effective. Are you using a fan clutch or electric fan?

Not sure why you have 2 fans on the radiator, having them both on can cause the air flow to disrupt and not pull the air through the radiator properly. If your running a mechanical fan with a shroud that is all that you should need.
