Ok, I got my money on the collective knowledge of all the people on this site.

Never seen one of these on the grill of a 55 before.
So I'm asking, What is it?

.

I'm guessing an aftermarket dress up piece from some place like JC Witney.

What say you ?

The same question was asked here about 10-12 years ago. It was partially resolved, but I don't remember the answer. I think a member from the Middle East had the same accessory and/or Sears or Montgomery Wards offered it. Maybe you could remove it and look for identification on the back side.

Even more recently. Guessing within the past 5-6 years. Likely something that comes around every so often since they were last sold and forgotten.

One of my parts suppliers has the old car.
I told him I would ask around and figure out what it is.

He has been in the trifive parts game for a long time, and he has never seen one.

It looks like a '55 grill bar to me.. :) Very rare! or... :)
Probably most of them died (of embarrassment) the first two years they were installed... :)

Just an after market nic nack to dress up (or screw up in my OP) the otherwise perfect oval grill of the 55.........

Seen them many times, never going to see one on any of my 55's

Honest Charley's Speed Shop, Chattanooga, Tenn.
Hey, that will give an excuse to run by Honest Charley again.
Like I need an excuse.

Now that I think about it, it kinda looks like a knock off of a 57 grille bar.
Make your 55 look like a 57?
Nah, no wonder that after market piece has been forgotten.:sign0020:
