Since my '55 Belair w/265 is almost completely stock, I want some headers to be non-abtrusive (not chrome or white). In fact I prefer black to blend with the stock air cleaner, valve cover script, etc. And I prefer long tube, not stubbys'

A couple sets I found said "COLUMN: NO", and my car is a 3-on-the-tree. The rest don't say if they do or don't fit the column shift.

So, what headers (if any) are ya'll running on a similar set-up?

I kinda like these:

Thanks,
Joe

You should look at the sticky header post in the modified 55-57 forum at chevytalk.com.

The headers you are looking at are good headers but I don't know if they will clear a manual column shift. My guess is they will but don't take my word for it.

Be aware, these are headers that will hang low and have possible ground clearance problems on a lowered car. I.e., they are headers that are made to use with the stock frame brackets for the rear motor mounts.

I use the same header only cermaic coated silver but I have a floor shift...that being said there seems to be a fair amount of room that the column shift linkage should clear...my suggestion call Hooker and speak with someone in their tech dept...I've sometimes gotten conflicting info from Summit, Jegs, etc. when talking with them re:fitment of various products.

I called JEG's and their book had a footnote for those headers that specified "column shift", so he said they'll fit. Also my car is stock height, so clearance shouldn't be an issue. I went with the stock spindles when I did my front disc brake conversion.

So, that said, everything should (say it with me everybody) "Bolt right on!"

Thanks for the advice everyone!!!

Operative word is "should":) You'll probably have no problems, good luck!

when you buy them,"just try this", don`t buy any ceramic coated. "Bill Hirsch" paint. swear by it. look it up. this is no ordinary high-temp stuff. believe me, i`ve painted my `55 headers in `96. they still look great today. i sold the car, but they still look great. 2400 degrees, guaranteed. just did my `57`s headers and exhaust system. when i can figure out how to post pic`s, i will. i have hedman`s. excellent.
