Daily Driver

I give anyone that uses their tri-five daily a lot of credit. I drive mine a lot on weekends but only to work 2 or 3 times a year.

Last year at age 60 it got its first chip in the windshield from a kicked up stone. It was kind of a wake up call to all the risks that are faced every time out. We just have to accept that they will get little nicks and chips if they are driven as a transportation car. To me the risk is worth it since driving it is the most fun thing I do with it!

I do not. BUT that is a nice car. Thanks for posting it. Mike

I've owned a 57 Bel Air, 2dr Hdtp since 1963. This is my 8th Chevy. It is my show car. I don't drive it to work but...I drive my 1957 GMC / Chevy truck to work everyday!! I don't drive it in bad weather but it gets caught in the rain several times. I sold my 99 Vette convertible, which I drove to work everyday and bought the truck. The truck is fun to drive.

I do!!

I drive my as a "good weather" daily driver. As long as it's not raining, I drive it to work. I've put 4K miles on it since last August when I bought it. Gets 17 MPG highway, which is better than my 96 Chevy Silverado and a lots more fun to drive!!

Good thread.....it gets me to thinking I should fire up the ole 57 150 stick six three on the tree and put some daily miles on it.....it can not hurt it. I'm the second owner .....the older gentleman that bought it new decided somewhere along the road lines of its life it needed some good ole brush painting ... his neglect to store it properly also has allowed rust to invade the quarters and rockers. Its mechanically ready so thanks for the inspiring thread :shakehands:

sadly I have to say no. :banghead: .......... that is one good looking 57, :congrats: to the owner for using it everyday. :tu

I drive mine when the snow leaves and its not on jacks in the garage. This will be my 4th year of driving it. I haven't completely fixed the stock wipers yet so if it rains heavy usually don't take it. I am doing a sectional restore (I call it) and its pretty rough visually. I am doing the major work during the winters and smaller projects during the driving seasons. Engine transmission / brakes were first/ steering and some seals. I tool last winter off and rebuilt a small boat. This winter I am just finishing up the front suspension and more steering. Keeping it as stock as possible. I have been discussing with myself if I would drive it everyday after the interior is done and she its painted. This will be a huge amount of money for me but right now I have convinced myself that I will drive it since that's why I am breaking my back on my concrete floor to rebuild it. We will see if I think the same way after she's dolled up. She's already beautiful of course but a makeover would really do her good.

Mine is a daily, good weather, driver. Seals around the window are dry and cracked and there is water damage to the headliner when I got it last year.

Turning heads when I can, :p3: hope to have a 24/7 Reserved parking spot in the Campus Garage this summer so she can stay beautiful.

As soon as I am finished with the trunk upholstery, then get my state inspection, (about 2-3 more weeks) it will be used every friggin day except snow. Not that I'm hesitant about putting it in the snow, but I would need snow tires and not about to spend on tires. I'm too old to have it sitting in a garage. Only got one of the heart veins working of the 4 I had fixed. Time is not on my side. Not going to baby it either. Going to smoke them tires every chance I get. Even let my wife drive it. Its been in my garage for repairs 4 years, and enough is enough!!! Besides, its a chick magnet. Notice my avatar looking back. :bowtieb:

Nope, envy the folks that can. I've got Historical tags. It gets its exercise and lots of events and club activities. I just love driving to events and making autoX and drag passes with the historical tags on the car. Plus insurance is CHEAPER!

Daily driver? Yep, every chance I get. I hunt reasons to take my old wagon to town. Needed birdseed, off to Tractor Supply to get a 40# bag. Dropped the tailgate and threw it in. Bought a new push mower last week. To Sears we went. The kid that loaded the mower couldn't figure out how to open the tailgate and raise the back glass. Hilarity ensued. :) You should have seen his eyes light up when I flipped the backseat bottom up and laid the backseat top down for more cargo room.
Now I might be a bit more gentle with it when I get it painted, but probably not.
Great thing about building a wagon is you can haul all your parts in it. Find a bumper at a swapmeet, no problem throw it in the back. Find a fender, no sweat. Now a hood is another story, that's what a roofrack is for . :)
Now I do try to stay out of the rain. The old car has new Raingear wipers but that's not the problem. Got old school wide whites and they are a bit narrow by today's standards. She will slide easy if you stand on the brakes. Ask me how I know.:embarassed:

I say drive'm!

P.S. a trailer hitch is on the list of things to do.....
