Have you ever noticed and wondered why some lower rear paint dividers are short. They don't cover the line that separates the two tone colors. Why?

Are some longer n some shorter for different models or it just is?

Thx for any in site on this.

For you, the reason is the holes for your rear quarter trim do not slope down enough in the rear. It could be clip related, but I suspect that after looking at the rear area above your bumper, some one has done some work there.

One lower paint divider was made to fit all.

Look at my photo and see how much higher the rear tip is in relation to the emblem below the tail light.

Thank you for your reply.

This is not my car. I have a Sedan. I just noticed on some Chevy's the paint divider just didn't look right. You think the holes would have been there unless they did some body work n did not follow the straight line when they put back the moldings.

Agree...Doesn't look level to me

NOT saying that it is the problem here (I don't think so anyway)...However, the upper hardtop divider, measured from the center of the divider from the top to the bottom is 13-3/8 inches long. The sedan divider measurement is 14-1/4 inches long.

If you were to put a sedan divider on a hardtop, the spear would then be lower in the front than the rear...(like my car)

Understand....My spear has a definite slope to it.

Not trying to steel this thread, but I thought I was out of luck as the P.O. had the paint line broken way too far to the rear and the dividers simply missed the paint break.
Finally got up the nerve and carefully dissolved the yellow lacquer. Fortunately it was sprayed over the India Ivory. A little buffing. Really lucked out.

Offshoot on the lower paint divider for a 55.

I have two different kinds here. I got both at swap meets along with other similar parts.

One is thin sheet metal like the big moldings and would be installed with clips like other moldings. Shows a lot of wear and tear, par of the white paint is weathered away.

The other is cast pot metal. Fastened by studs.

I am reasonably sure that the sheet metal version is OEM.

I'm thinking that the cast parts are aftermarket. Is this true?

Some replacements that were offered by companies like JC Withey were cast zinc. Some years ago there were some reproductions made of these. They were not correct back in the day, nor are the reproductions of those aftermarket item. OEM were all stamped from polished stainless then silk screened in the recesses.

Just measured the pieces I got with the car.
The ft dividers are restored, OEM. They are 14 1/4"
The rear dividers are aftermkt from Classic Chevy Parts, in Ca.
They are 6 1/4".
Anyone have the dimension on the OEM rear dividers?
