Get a cast iron Dorman and be done with your issue...Regret I am forgetting the part number right now.

OK if you need the angle...Most require a straight

 

I'd be interested in the part number for the cast iron straight one as well. I don't really want to put my crusty 1955 one on my new manifold but I certainly don't want the chrome o-ring one either.

Saw this one on eBay so I went with it. It's an NOS GM part for a '57 Chevy truck, part # is GM Part# 12302537.

I knew you would find that part # right after I pulled the trigger on the NOS one, lol.

 

I did, but I looked at it this way:
1. it's original
2. it included a gasket
3. it included shipping
4. a Mr. Gasket one from Auto Zone was $30

 

I think it is a Dorman, the original is diecast and has a part number on it.

That one is nothing like the original that you ended up ordering...Chrome and a swivel.

No matter now though...You've got one on the way.

 

LS water necks are usually smaller than SBC/BBC, and there's more than one size.

 

Yes, I realize that one was diff- I was merely stating that the prices for the other ones that I was reviewing weren't too far off price-wise from the NOS one that I bought, so I did not feel that I got hit too badly for the price. Since it's cast iron, though, I'll have to figure out what color to paint it, as it's going to be sitting on top of an aluminum intake.

 

i am sort of living this little dream as well. i could never get the original neck with the oring to seal right. one thing i did notice on it was that i guess it had been torqued down a little too much that the ears were basically bent down, meaning, it was never going to sit flat. i ran it over some sand paper for a while to flatten it out. that worked pretty well, i also put the gm gasket with the little rubber oring, and that sealed stuff up. i just changed thermostats, i guess the gasket wasnt quite as reusable as advertised, it leaked, so i switched to the Mr. Gasket neck i had bought earlier, The oring was bundled up inside, so it wouldnt sit right unless i used a little silicone to help it. The Mr Gasket one is way lighter than my other. its on the car now, leaks a little, but im afraid being 80 miles from home to torque it down a little more for fear of snapping or bending it.

 

I always wonder why GM put the water neck mounting just a little crooked? And that after all these years no one made a water neck that makes it perfectly straight. And why do all the aftermarket manufactures of intakes follow along and give them a slight angle? Not a big deal, my straight hose bends a little, just makes me wonder?

 

I just installed a water neck from edelbrock With the rubber o ring style and it had a small drip and so I took back apart new o ring and this time smeared a little gasket sealer. So I hope it’s fix have not check yet

 

The new water pump neck arrived Friday, and I got to install it today. So far, no leaks, but I'll need to let it sit out in the cold for a few days and check it again. Man I hope this took care of that issue!!

 

Use a good quality O ring from your local hydraulic shop & you will be just fine. The ones that come with most O ring necks are Chiiing Choong garbage.

Some of the cheap o-ring types (like Spectre) are made of some crap and flex, preventing a good seal. I don't think a better o-ring will help. Well maybe if it's really extra soft? I'll stick with my cast steel generic one and a regular heavy paper type gasket.

I still don't understand why intake manifolds have the bolt holes at a slight angle? And that no one makes a one piece water neck that compensates with an opposite angle so it points straight ahead. Someone here could get rich making one! You would be good for at least 1 sale!

 

Just a heads up that, to-date, I've had no leaks with the new neck!
