For a fact the absolute rarest color on a 55 belair are gray over coral. My book from chevy backs this claim.
The book you reference, Chevy Classics '55, '56 '57" by Andrew Young may cite that information, but I guarantee he doesn't provide any 'factual backup' of that information because it doesn't exist. It's HIS OPINION only. He has written as many books on Chryslers, Fords, etc as he has Chevrolet. His first book was written in the late '70's (per Amazon), which tells me that he has no experience with the cars at all. He writes 'Coffee Table books' with pretty photos and little facts.

Guess the quantity of each model sold is imaginary too

Some of us DO geek out about things. Some of us are tired of self-proclaimed experts creating facts that don't actually exist.

You don't care, which is obvious from your comment. Fine. Allow those of us who do care the right to do so.

I geek out on lots of stuff, as should be obvious from my selected online name. Being a geek allows me to solve problems others cannot. What you may consider minutiae may be considered collection of data and critical thinking by me. Don't criticize me for doing so. The day may come when you're stumped by a tri-five problem, and I know the answer - but if I don't like your attitude, I may choose to keep quiet and let you sweat it out.

Im going by printed material. You have to admit gray over coral is rare at any car show. Whether or not you like my reply or attitude is your business. Tell u what. Keep quiet and let me sweat it out. Too many here are so called experts on tri 5s. really despise people like you. searching for the ignore button.

George, you have a very bad attitude! This is a friendly posting site.

I have not seen many Dusk Pearl '57's around, of any trim level either. There is a DP/White 210 local, and my Belair. The other 57's I've seen are mostly red or black.

From What I have found out is the 1955 Coral/Shadow grey was a very popular color that did not fair well in the used car era. As these cars got some age on them the Coral Cars were painted different colors more often then any I know of. FYI I have a Coral over Shadow Grey car, so I pay attention to what is written about them and what I have learned from working on these cars for the last 45 years since the day I bought my first 55 back in 1975.

Hope you learn to be nice, this place has a great feel and rude people just devalue the whole experience.

Appreciate your info and not to be "rude" but your car isnt coral over shadow gray

Guess i forgot about cliques and sensitivities. Haas means rabbit in german. Guess im hopping you on over to the ignore side with your other two friends. Goodbye

So what color is the car if it's not coral over shadow gray? I for one would like to know.

This would be hilarious if George wasn't serious. (I have to assume that, as I see no "smiley" in the post.)

Where I went to school, one thing that was drilled into our heads: Cite your references. And, validate any references before you cite them.

George has read a coffee table picture book on tri-fives, written by a guy whose specialty is writing coffee table picture books. So, George knows more about tri-five paint than the collected wisdom found here. This apparently gives George the right to be rude to the rest of us when we question said book.

Yet, George can't even get his citation of said book correct.

George said the book was written by Andrew Young. When I looked on Amazon, I found Andrew Young is a politician/pastor/author from Georgia who writes on politics and civil rights.

I did find an Anthony Young on Amazon who wrote a tri-five coffee table book (though in recent years he's migrated to space exploration coffee table books). But, the title didn't match George's citation.

Perhaps George could clear this up by posting a photo of the front cover of the book in question, showing the title and author. Oh wait - George has me on his ignore list, so he won't see this suggestion. :)

But, no matter. George will cite this book - whatever it is - and insult people here with decades of experience with these cars. Ignore their experience, ignore their personal library of original GM documentation. His coffee table book overrules all of that. To which I say: fine - cite this author's citation of his source for the color percentages.

Now, when I make a statement, I cite original GM documentation. These days, it's easy for me to share that with you via a URL to said factory documentation.

As far as colors go: I understand tri-five paint. In fact - I understand those weird letters that appear after the paint code on '57s. The reason I understand them? I read.

Now, my understanding is no secret; I've shared it. Have you looked at the scans of original DuPont and PPG paint charts in the Library section? Those scans are of my paint charts. The '57 DuPont chart explains the letter codes.

I say: to my knowledge, Mr. Young's book presents his opinions/guesses on color statistics as fact, which is just plain wrong. Now, if you can show me original GM documentation that lists said statistics, I'll be happy to admit I was wrong, and I've learned something new. But, in the meantime...

Shadow Gray over Coral (the roof is gray, so it's the "over" color.)

Robert's a very capable guy who made a simple error in wording. George feels the need to nitpick and insult in an effort to demonstrate his deep grasp of tri-five paint schemes.:p
