Hey ; Does that sound like a Star-trek question ? I'm putting a 95 Astro V6 into a 55 Chevy , but I'm using a Muncie M20 trans . The van was automatic (4L60E), and I'm using the van ECM and spaghetti . (I know I'm missing out on the OD benefit , but will do that for my next project.) I'd like to get some input from other ECM users on the speedo problem ; I'm anticipating NOT using the VSS and its wiring , and just need to know the driveability will still be there ,( or will I lose the EGR function ?). (Can we fool the ECM ?) I'll be using the cable-driven speedo with the M20 Muncie , and would rather NOT use the Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS) . Is this reasonable to assume ? The less wiring the better . Be safe.......Bob.

You're going to have all sorts of codes if you use the program for a 4L60E with a manual transmission.

I don't know if those vans were available with a manual transmission. But you could probably use the program from a pickup with the same engine and a manual transmission. If they were, you want to re-flash the computer with the program from a manual transmission engine.

I think the only problem you'd then have without a VSS would be with fueling on deceleration, and that may be a non-problem. I don't know what EGR would do, you might have to disable it.

Randy ; Just something I hadn't done , a .030 over V6 = 265 cu.in.. Just what GM put in the old car in 1955 , only a lot more driveable , better on gas , and more power . The M20 Muncie was for yesteryear ; I had 3 broken M20's , so I built one out of three . The ECM was an afterthought too , because I've built hotrods since forever , and with gas over $5.00/gal. now , all these spare parts began to make sense . That short little motor looks funny in there , though , like something's missing . I needed a project to keep me busy awhile , and I needed to do something with the rusty old Astro van with a fresh motor in it . I've just had enough muscle-motors and carburetors , it was time for something I can cruise in . I'm just interested in finishing this swap as simply as I can , so the car is not only more driveable , but more fixable . I'll post a picture or two as I mock it up ; acardon's car has given me a ton of neat ideas . Be safe.....Bob.

I think you're going to have more than a few issues with this. Particularly finding someone who knows how to do custom programming for a '95 V6. Not exactly alot of demand out there for that... I agree with Rick, I believe you're going to need some way to tell the PCM how fast the car is going. You might try calling Speed and Performance in Mena, AR or Speartech and see what they have to say.

I can appreciate having the motor in hand and all, but I don't see your V6-Muncie combo getting any better mileage than a well tuned V8.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for the encouragement , Rick and Charlie ; I found a company in Pleasanton , Calif. that engineers these ECM - TBI and TPI swaps , and they have the adaptor to cable-drive speedo's that will operate the Muncie speedo cable-drive , AND feed a signal to the ECM through their own VSS . If it works for the fussy California emissions people it works for me , and the ECM will have its VSS input . (Stealth Conversions , affiliated with JTR in Pleasanton,Ca. ) Thanks again , and be safe......Bob.

Go for it! Dare to be different. If we were all the same, our World would be a boring place.:congrats:
