57 grille options-what's your idea?

How many of you 57 owners have looked at the front of your ride and thought, man, there could be something alot cooler in there than the factory grille. I've seen the 'vette grille-that looks pretty cool:tu. I saw the 57 morroco grille-looks like the same layout for a 55 grille-still pretty cool:tu 5's and 6's have better options, although I think the stock grilles for 5's and 6's are sexy just the way they are. NO BILLET CHOICES HERE! Nothing against billet or tube grilles, but they've kind of ran their course throughout the years. I'm even considering using something similar to an 80's trans am type of grille material-the black a.b.s. plastic with octagonal shaped holes; the turn signal bar would look like it's floating in there. LET'S SEE SOME PICS OR PHOTO SHOP IDEAS!

Very sweet looking! The gold and the turquoise really compliment each other nicely, I'm not arguing that. I'm not against original grilles, and a custom grille would look out of place unless the rest of the car was 'customized'. I'm wondering if there is something out there in between, if that makes sense. When we brought our wagon home, the grille was blacked out. The P.O. got carried away with a rattle can of black paint. It was fugly, but I liked how it made the turn signal bar appear to be floating in the opening. It made me start thinking about alternatives to the o.e. grille. I'm sure I'll come to my senses soon and order up the stock chrome grille for ours, just wanted to see some others' ideas.

Back in the day on my first 57, I removed the grill bar and made some shark's teeth to fit in there made out of sheet metal....Then I modified the hood ornaments to accept amber running lights that I used for directionals....Wish I would have taken a photo of it.

Works quite nicely. Thanks Randy! I like that grille! Is it me or does it look similar to the 55 grille? I've only seen the morocco in pics, and haven't really seen a good view of the front. I wonder what a grille like that goes for let alone locating one. That way it would still be somewhat factory. I wouldn't even begin to know where to look. Thanks for everyone's pics and opinions. Keep posting pics of your grilles!

Arn't there laws about the height for lights?
Jim
Jim,

Yes there is. I used to have a lifted Chevy truck, For the head lights its 54'' from the bottom of the lights to the ground. >i never had to worry about this< LOL There are some guys in Modesto that will remove the head lights fill in the body and place the head lights in the bumber to stay legal.
I could be wrong on this but it seems to be what i recall when asking a cop buddy of mine.

Classic Chevy have one in their catalog which is basically a stock '57 grille without the cut outs for mounting the grille bar - makes it look a bit similar to the Morocco. I have been considering one of them for my '57, just trying to get it down here without costing an arm and a leg. Part # is 02-122. Can someone here please upload the image from their catalog.
A guy here in Australia make all types of panels using a bow tie cut out - has made them for 1/4 panel inserts etc - don't have his contact details but one of the Aussies may be able to load images.

I like stock. I also like the idea that the 150/210 should run the stock silver grill.. and the BelAir should run the stock gold grill... I also like polished aluminum bumperettes and shaved bumpers for a clean look.. but, for me the grill needs to be stock.:tu

Just for the record, I don't think there is a better look than what the factory did with any of the tri five grilles either. I was just curious if there is/was something out there that was different and worth looking into. Variety is the spice of life, and if everyone built their cars the same way it would be a pretty boring world to live in. Thanks to everyone giving their opinions and sharing photo's. Keep 'em coming.
