You should consider this option, it may not be very expensive to have done ib the long run. Klacker, is this your other 265 ?
yea,,, this is 265 #2...... This motor was "pickled" since 1968...it only has 66,000 original miles....oil was drained, and the motor was filled to the intake with diesel fuel...unfortunately from the pistons up....they did nothing...if only they had filled with oil or something....bottom end of the motor is like new...and then the rings....well they rusted solid to the cyl. walls....severely

as of tonight 9/22 the lil motor has been bored...per ea. std 283 piston....so far with success!!!!! IT WENT SMOOTH AS SILK

I have a shop here in town... will sonic test the motor ....the older feller I chatted with will test ea cyl. in 14 places rather than the usual 8...AND ONLY charge me $35!!!

I guess now..I`ll find out if the cyl. walls are thick enough!!!!
I`m a crossing my fingers!!!!!:p3: :p3: :sign0020:

You should have sonic tested first I case you had to offset bore the cylinder to keep it thick.

Keep us posted. :anim_25:

Now that you have the 283 cubic inch bore, you can put a 327 crank in it and have a 307 Cibic Inch motor.

Otis :)

The 307 engines chevy put out were 283 blocks with 327 cranks.

Thanks...for the input...I do appreciate it......maybe you can answer this for me....what is the minimum cyl. wall thickness useable???? .15 ? .20 ? :p3:

:shakehands:
In your case I wouldn't go under .160 on the skirt sides and under .085 on the wrist pin sides of the cylinders.

Good luck

I just want a lil 283 outa the beast...I already have a 1958 crank turned .010 on the rods and mains....and a set of 63 327 re-man rods...and some NOS 283 stock bore pistons.....good idea though....:tu :tu
friends,Klacker

Boring

I don't why everyone is on my case, you're not supposed to be able to bore a 55 265 to 283, not enough meat. Good luck if you get away with it, just don't race it.
