If the VIN on the bus frame is like a car, there are no digits or letters, before the 57.

ME....Not sure what character(s) may have before the 57 on busses....However, there probably were, since the cars had them.....In the end it will be up to the DMV.....However, yours is the only one with that serial number.

k, i know looking up vin stuff 53-54 vins had a z for a bus, so maybe the z carried over to the 57 vins?? i guess ill have to just go in and argue witht them til i can get some paperwork! lol thanks guys

the number stamped on the frame is a partial. I found a COMPLETE VIN stamped in the cab on the floor /gas tank support. On a BUS? I can't help, BUT I'd say look around on the floor ribs, behind the driver's seat. ALSO the '57 assembly manual i have says big trucks got a VIN tag on the steering column between the dash and the floor.

I found one more piece of info.....
this is from a '57 chevy truck shop manual.
The second column towards the bottom shows 5 "bus sizes".
Each size has a VIN prefix. 4C57, 6D57, 6E57, 8F57, 10F57.....then would come the VIN stamped on the frame (or in the cab if you can find it).
Example: 4C57XXXXXXX
If it was a V8 bus original, it would have a V as the very FIRST digit.
Example: my 1/2ton pickup: V3A57LXXXXXX ; V ="V8", 3 ="series", A ="short wheelbase", 57 ="year", L ="built in los angles", then the rest of the numbers off your frame.
If this is too small to read I can Email you a bigger copy.
