Old Edelbrock Torker

Yep, the old Edelbrock Torker manifolds did that. It was their attempt to line the carb venturis up with the manifold runners as close as possible to give everything a straight shot down the runner. Don't know if it was effective compared to a flange that is "normal" to the centerline of the engine, but it must have made power, as I am sure that Edelbrock ran it on the dyno to come up with this configuration.

Somebody working in a parts store once told me that this manifold was designed for the dirt track racers so when they side into the corners that the flow would improve through the inertia of the corners. Kind of made sense, I never followed up on it as I wasn't interested in the off angle looks.Wither this is correct I don't know so don't shoot me, just saying what I've heard. A friend of mine had one on his B/B Chevelle.

I've run a few of them before on the street. They work well if you like twisting up the motor high.

I found though that a regular dual plane has much more explosive power down lower in the RPM range. Much better on the street.

I have a 454 in my garage right now that has one. Whenever I get around to working on it the very first thing I'm going to do is pull and change the intake.

It's from the late 1960s, early 1970's. Was popular about when the 454 was released. I remember seeing one on a '70 by '71.
Can u tell me more about the angled carb. I have a stock for 54 big block that has an angle carb stock from the factory and I know I checked out to be a high performance 454. I believe you mentioned it’s been late 60s or 70s. Tell me all you know, please.
