Eddie Motorsports' billet hinges

I purchased these very expensive hinges years ago. All of a sudden that hood will not stay up. I suspect that it has something to do with the nitrogen filled gas structs, but I'm not sure.

Please chime in on this subject to point me in the right direction - I'm not seeing replacement structs for sale on the web, plus I'm not even sure that that is the issue. So, what keeps up the hood?

A friend just had the same thing happen; the older EMS struts which HAD been holding the hood up would no longer do so. He called Eddie Motorsports and was sold new struts which had 20% more support; those are working so far!

For the price that is paid for them, you would think that they would offer free replacements or repair for a known design flaw.

I just checked their website and couldn't find a single word about 'warranty', but I'm pretty certain that my friend was told the 'warranty' was 1 yr; his held the hood up for 3-4 yrs during construction, but once the car was finished (1 wk later), they wouldn't. :(

Oh, they refer to their $600/pr hood supports as 'affordable'...?

There was another brand out there that I think came out before Eddie Motorsports, forget who now. They had "goldilocks" struts - either too hard or too soft, never just right.

The only other brand I know of is Ring Bros. Never have heard any feedback on theirs.

A friend of mine went round and round with Eddie Motorsports on an accessory drive. Originally they shipped him a Chinese counterfeit a/c compressor and alternator. He finally got them to send a real Sanden compressor and a Powermaster alternator. I didn't quite get the mix of custom CNC'd/polished parts with junk stuff to bolt to them.

I’ve got a new set of Eddie Motorsports hinges on a 57 that have been on a couple of months now. They are fine so far. When I ordered them they did ask if it was a stock or an aftermarket steel hood. So I guess they have different versions due to weight being different. I’d definitely give them a call. I know they had issues early on but I know of several set bought recently that have been fine.

I had to have the top mounting holes milled longer because it didn't allow for the bolt pattern on my Real Deal reproduction firewall. I'll be installing the hood back on this week. I hope the modification works, because I was told any mod, however small, would void any warranty on my hinges. So I guess these hinges are not compatible with repro firewalls and I'm stuck with trying to make it work. I hope I can.

Well Bob, they look great but the fit is even more important - I originally purchased the hinges to correct a hood issue that had the hood sticking up about 1/4 inch on the right back side - I was able to push it down after closing the hood but it always popped back up - anyway, the new hinges corrected that issue.

By the way, I had someone install my hinges since I'm skillless in that area. Is it relatively easy to replace that struts? Something I should be able to do?

If you look closely at the strut, you'll see a thin wire c-clip of sorts. Pull that out and the strut will come off the ball it's mounted to. Remember to prop/support whatever you're removing the strut from.
