This week was a little productive.....Finished filling as many holes in the firewall, as I could.....Then, with the help of a couple of my neighbors, we pulled all of the front-end sheet metal in one piece.....The good news is we were able to get it off without any damage to its high dollar paint job.....I had been dragging my feet about pulling it for this very reason.....I can now paint the remaining part of the front frame and then I will attend to some rust that is now accessable on the driver's side of the cowl.....Also, I will be looking at possible hidden locations where I can run the wiring harnesses through the cowl or firewall.

Whats the sharpie pen circleX for on the upper left cowl for David? If your planning on running your wiring through there, thats your cowl vent area. Don't want to let you run into a roadblock after it's all spruced up with paint. Just lookin out for the admins :sign0020:

I've been contemplating on several places to run the wiring Hafrod.....Some of them entail going through the plenum chamber.....Here are some possibilities that I've come up with below:

You might repair markm's reply and your quoted reply from him. That K-word is supposed to be LIKE. I think actor Mel Gibson got into some big trouble for that word! :sign0020: :sign0020: :sign0020:

Have you looked down the service hole to see if the gutter and top of the cowl are free of coastal treasures?

THANKS Tim......Will do a thorough inspection Monday, when I get back home.

Painted the Firewall

My God....Its hard to believe its been over a year, since I updated this thread...I realized last week that I've been putting off painting the firewall on my 55 HT long enough....The summer heat/humidity and other projects have kept me away from the task...The weather is super for painting and working outside here now....Low humidity and mid seventies temps....So, I'm on it.

I prepped the bare metal on the firewall, using #80 grit sand paper and wiped it down with Dawn dishwashing soap.....I used the SPI gray epoxy primer with a 1.4 tip in the HVLP spray gun.....It was my first experience with the product and I am now sold on it.......Super adhesion and hard as a rock....I am IMPRESSED to say the least.

I was a bit nervous at first, since I'm an old man and had never used it.....So much so, that when I poured it in the first cup, I had forgotten to attach the gun....Needless to say, you can guess where some of the paint went, before I plugged the dike.....All over my shoes and work area

Anyhow....THANKS to Roger1 and Porchdog for promoting the SPI products.

Graet story. Glad that SPI gray epoxy primer worked out for you. Looks good, Mike.

Would you hurry up already!!!! :sign0020:
Now that the weather is more suitable and I've caught up on some other chores, I'll be able to put more time in on my HT project. :)

Still a long ways to go....However, the key is to get a little something done each day, don't get overwhelmed by it all, and stay focused on your dream....(I should take more of my own advice sometimes.)

Rain, Rain, Rain

Well, summer is coming to an end here in Florida....The temps have finally come down from the mid-ninetys and above to the mid eightys....Its time to get back on it....Have the firewall all prepped for another coat of SPI epoxy primer....Have only the driveway to paint in....So, I'm totally dependent on the weather....Been raining here off and on for the last week...Dang it!

The showers stopped this morning, so I rolled the car out and put a coat of SPI primer on the firewall....Couldn't even leave it outside to dry....The fresh paint was under attack by the love bugs....They were unbelievably thick, so I had my wife help me roll it back in the garage pronto!
